Consultation Work

Community Engagement and Consultation Service: Informing Social Policy

There’s no mistaking what must happen:

“Government can no longer take key policy decisions without first having conversations with people who will be affected by the decisions”

Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety

Conversations means consultation and the consultation process is complex, particularly when it involves access to the opinions and concerns of ‘hard to reach’ marginalised community groups.  For statutory, voluntary, or private organisations seeking effective consultation Community Direct’s Consultation Service is the answer.  From initial access to final report, we can deliver it all.

We have a network of community based, professionally trained Facilitators located throughout Northern Ireland.  With their expertise and a flexible, responsive organisational infrastructure, the service is strategically placed to obtain those views vital to public/social policy formulation and implementation.

Why work with Community Direct to consult and engage with the community?

• Community Direct has the ability to access community groups and women’s groups in disadvantaged ‘hard to reach’ areas throughout Northern Ireland.
• Community Direct works with a network of Community Facilitators geographically spread across the country.
• Community Direct uses the experience and accessibility of Community Facilitators to deliver training and consultation in local communities, especially in areas of social and economic need; areas that statutory organisations often find most difficult to target and serve.
• Community Facilitators have recognised training (NVQ Level 3 in Direct Training and Support) and expertise.
• All our Facilitators have been trained in how to communicate with ethnic minority groups.

Testimonial from participant

‘For the first time in my life, I feel that I have been given the opportunity to participate and influence issues that really matter to me.  I feel that my opinion is genuinely valued.  I honestly believe that women such as myself, living in rural communities can make a strong impact on policy developments’.

Testimonial from Client

This service has received commendation from OFMDFM: “They provided an effective mechanism for engagement with socially excluded women and helped us access the views of women living in disadvantaged communities in both urban and rural areas throughout Northern Ireland”.
