Let’s Talk – Parent/Child communication regarding sexual health

Sexual health is an important part of physical and mental health but many parents don’t know how to raise the subject or are too embarrassed to talk to their children.Let's Talk

Northern Ireland has one of the highest rates of teenage motherhood in Europe, with 1,700 births a year.  With teenage pregnancy continuing to rise here, especially in areas of social deprivation, and with sexually transmitted infections at an all time high, it is clear to see why parents are becoming increasingly concerned.

We launched the Let’s Talk programme to raise awareness and knowledge of sexual health amongst adults and increase their confidence to talk to children and young people about relationships, sexuality and sexual health.

This award winning programme covers communication, attitudes to sexuality, relationships, pregnancy and contraception, and sexually transmitted infections.

The course is delivered by specially trained Community Facilitators that are able to reach many people who may feel uncomfortable talking about such a ‘taboo’ topic with health professionals.
